GROWERS HINTS:
► A South American native it is similar to Datura which is also called Angel’s trumpet.The one in the picture is one of the most often seen. Charles Gramaldi. It is described as a salmon color but it is much more orange than salmon. It is an apt name for those big, gorgeous golden trumpet flowers that hang in masses for the spring and summer. Each flower at sunset scents the evening air with a fragrance that is “heavenly”. Easy to grow. A word of CAUTION: she is one of the few poisonous plants, so don’t eat it or you might be playing a real Angel’s trumpet long before you planned.
GROWTH HABITS:
► She needs a “big space” and good drainage. This means not right next to the house. Brugmansias can’t take extreme heat and she is not fond of icy cold weather but will struggle to survive as long as the roots don’t freeze. Cut back in the spring after cold weather or anytime it is growing actively.
SHADE/SUN:
► Plant in the ground in morning sun, afternoon shade inland, full sun on the coast.
FEEDING AND WATERING:
► Once Angel is established it is hard to over water a mature plant. They are heavy feeders and in addition need Ironite at the labeled rate to keep the leaves green.
