Verbena - Weidners Gardens

COMMON NAME:
► Verbena

SCIENTIFIC NAME:
► Verbena

GROWER HINTS:
►Superbenas! What a revolution verbenas have gone through. The newest is Superbenas from Proven Winners®. Big huge flower clusters in florescent colors. Very vigorous growth habit makes it wonderful for larger containers and the ground. Verbenas have always been one of the prettiest flowers for sunny areas.

GROWTH HABITS:
►Quickly grow to about 18 inches across. They will not like heavy clay soils. Verbenas always like hot weather and can also tolerate the cold into the low 20’s. Superbenas appear to have a longer bloom period than previous varieties. Probably 10 months of the year.

►Give it a light cut to dead-head old blooms at anytime. It will be ready to re-bloom quickly. Superbenas will stay green all year and are considered perennial. With good care they should last for some years. Most ground covers need to be refurbished every few years.

SHADE/SUN:
►Give them lots of sun, they don’t like the shade.

FEEDING AND WATERING:
►They like to be kept moist, but never soggy wet. Containerized Verbenas need to be kept watered. Daily for large baskets and possibly less for larger pots. Otherwise keep fertilized about twice a month while in bloom.

FLOWER/FOLIAGE COLOR(S):
►Bright purple, blue, or white.

SEASON(S) CARRIED AT WEIDNERS:
►Spring/Summer

CONTAINER OR GROUND?
►Verbenas are easiest in the ground where they can get plenty of water. Also good in a basket or container but need to keep watered!

PARTICULAR PESTS:
►While it is more mildew resistant than old fashioned verbenas you still need to watch for mildew. If it happens cut back and treat.
