COMMON NAME:
► Golden Candles or Shrimp Plant

SCIENTIFIC NAME:
► Pachystachys lutea

GROWER HINTS:
►Yellow is a perfect color for highlighting a shady area!

GROWTH HABITS:
►Evergreen in mild climates it sort of limps its way through winter and then begins to grow again in spring. Pruning: There are new shoots waiting to bloom at each node beneath the flowering stem. You want to cut off that stem at least half way down or more to keep your plant branching down low. Unless you want a very tall plant!

SHADE/SUN:
►This is a great plant for mild climate outdoor shade gardens. Will bloom indoors in a SUNNY window any where. Golden candles are spring/summer/fall bloomers.

FEEDING AND WATERING:
►Lots of water if potted, this could be every day! Regular watering in the ground. Fertilizer: Use any well balanced liquid feed. Leach potted plants at least once a month. (This means running the water through the pot several times to wash out the extra salts.)

FLOWER/FOLIAGE COLOR(S):
►They throw up a spike of golden yellow bracts with small white flowers. The bracts are very long lasting.

SEASON(S) CARRIED AT WEIDNERS:
►Spring/Summer

CONTAINER OR GROUND?
►Container or in the ground.

PARTICULAR PESTS:
►Well, they can get almost anything, but the most common would be aphids…wash off with water. White flies love everything.
