Begonia (Richmondensis aka Sun Begonia) - Weidners Gardens

COMMON NAME:
► Sun or Waxleaf Begonia

SCIENTIFIC NAME:
► Begonia Richmondensis

GROWERS HINTS:
► Some of the easiest of the begonias to grow. Richmondensis will take just about anything you throw at it. These are the work horses of the begonia family. Most sun begonias do great for several years and then need to be replaced. Don’t expect them to go on forever.

GROWTH HABITS:
► All soft stemmed plants look a little scraggly in the winter. Let them be. Remember, when it gets warm again, give them a little fertilizer and they will begin to put out new growth. Then get in there and trim back the old stems.

SHADE/SUN:
► Give them full sun or partial sun along the coast, inland partial sun.

FEEDING AND WATERING:
► Keep moist. They will tolerate drying out, but looks will suffer . If the soil pulls completely away from the edge of the pot, you will need to soak it in water for a minute or two until it no longer floats.

FLOWERS/FOLIAGE COLOR(S):
► Shade will make the foliage softer and greener, sun will make it tougher and redder. Just like our skin! (Yes, there’s a clue here.) Blooms year round. Flowers are small and pink or red in color.

SEASON(S) CARRIED AT WEIDNERS:
► Spring/summer

CONTAINER OR GROUND:
► Hang them or plant them in the ground or a container, they are not fussy.
