GROWER HINTS:
►Geraniums are tough, easy to grow everywhere, and love SUN!! There are many different geraniums, all of them native to south africa. The Salmon bloom is from a zonal or upright geranium. The red flower above is an Ivy Geranium, easier, looms more and is more hanging. Center above is a true geranium, not a pelargonium. Geranium Sugar plum makes a fast ground cover. the larger blue flowers is geranium Jolly Blue. Easy and very beautiful.
GROWTH HABITS:
►Cut them back in the early spring, then, feed and give them a spring tonic of iron. They will take off again for another season. Old leaves always turn yellow…remove and don’t worry. The little round scars on old leaves is also normal.
SHADE/SUN:
►Sun. Too much shade gives a leggy, non-blooming monster.
FEEDING AND WATERING:
►Geraniums like to be watered thoroughly and then allowed to get just a little dry before being watered again. A little dry means just that, not 2 weeks without a drop of water. Geraniums will look better if you feed them regularly.
FLOWER/FOLIAGE COLOR(S):
►Ivy geranium foliage is medium green and lowers are white, pink, or red with a variety of shades and combinations. Upright/zonal geraniums can have a variety of beautiful foliage colors. Some are very striking just for their foliage.
SEASON(S) CARRIED AT WEIDNERS:
►Spring/Summer. We always have ivy geraniums but availability of upright geraniums varies so call first.
CONTAINER OR GROUND?
►Ivy Geraniums can hang, make a ground cover, and climb a little. Zonal geraniums are upright and look great in pots. Dead head and trim back occasionally for best results. They’re great alone or mixed with other plants.
PARTICULAR PESTS:
