GROWER HINTS:
► Scarlet Pimpernel®, Faire Lady & Red Ridinghood: These are the better cousins of the beautiful climbing Mandevilla Alice duPont. We have had Dipladenia Red Ridinghood since about 1984. Now we have three shades to enjoy. These are really mandevilla sanderii, but they have been called Dipladenia for years and years.Their growth habit is very different from other climbing mandevillas. Leaves are smaller, more leathery and if grown in a container in frost free areas they do not go semi dormant in winter.Dips will grow at the beach but they’re also happy inland in the warmer weather. If you want good bloom all year round you need to grow in a pot or planter, keep up with your fertilizing schedule, every two weeks. do not over water in cold winter weather. Do not plant where the rain water off the roof will drain on your dips. This is a great plant and you should enjoy it for many years.
GROWTH HABITS:
► If it begins to tendril and vine it is too shady. Tip prune in spring when your plant begins to look raggedy.
SHADE/SUN:
► Grow your “Dip” in either sun or very light shade. Inland they will certainly want a bit of shade from the hot sun. Some shade gives you a more intense color….more sun, a bushier plant.
FEEDING AND WATERING:
► If you want good bloom all year round you need to keep up with your fertilizing schedule, every two weeks. Dips will tolerate a bit of dryness, but are not really drought tolerant plants. Do not over water in winter. .
FLOWER/FOLIAGE COLOR(S):
► Scarlet Pimpernel, a real true bright cherry red with a yellow throat as it opens, changing to the rose of Red Ridinghood as the flower matures. Faire Lady is a soft white with a yellow throat. Leaves are a shiny dark green.Red Ridinghood is the original dark pink . The newer mandevilla Crimson Parasol series has some of these dips in the their breeding line. They have flashier colors, faster growth but are go out of bloom in the winter and are more delicate in the winter. we grow both.

CONTAINER OR GROUND:
► Dipladenias seem more successful as container plants. You’ll find they are one of the most satisfactory basket or container plants you can possibly grow.
PARTICULAR PESTS:
► Aphids are the most common pest. Wash them off with a strong spray of water. Whiteflies can be a problem.
